Almost one year ago, I was asked to come along on a family hike with my camera by my friend Derek (Cody’s brother). He was planning on asking his long time girlfriend Kacie to marry him and he wanted to document his Telluride Proposal on film. Yikes! What a moment to be able to capture. I had never photographed a proposal but had ALWAYS wanted to. So…We set out that brisk fall morning to hike Hope Lake near Telluride, Colorado.
Dori, Cody and Jia joined along with friend Liz.
To everyone else on the hike it wasn’t out of the ordinary that I hike with my camera since it’s always attached at my hip. I was able to capture some of my favorite places and people while I was at it!
Plus, I was able to bring my dog Ruger along on the hike! My little buddy came to work with me!
Once we got to the lake, Derek was to whisk Kacie away to a private local where he would drop down to one knee. Although we talked about how it would go down. I don’t think I put much thought into how I was going to be stealthy with a big ol’camera and the fact that near tree line, there isn’t a whole lot of things to hide behind! Insert giggles here. I kind of felt like Elmer Fudd, “huntin’ rabbits” trying to sneak along behind them. I positioned myself behind the only little tree I could find.
